Recently I was talking with a client who I also consider a friend.

We’re at similar stages of life, navigating similar complexities around family, work, faith, and everything in between.

At one point, I paused and said,

“Gosh, life’s just hard, isn’t it?”

She smiled and said she and her husband have a phrase they come back to often:

“We’re trying here, people!”

It’s their way of reminding themselves that…

• Life isn’t easy.

• We’ll never have it fully under control.

• Honor isn’t found in perfection…

• But in not giving up.

It’s one of those phrases that stuck with me.

So now, when I find myself feeling frustrated or confused or overwhelmed, I’ll think to myself…

“We’re trying here, people!”

It makes me smile.

And reminds me I’m not alone in trying to walk through a complicated world.
